The admission charge at the Botanical garden is the major income for horticulture department here. Officials recently hiked the film shooting charges at the garden from Rs.25,000 to Rs.50,000. The Nilgiris Film Association opposed the move and said that it would discourage filmmakers from shooting at the garden premises, especially budget film and serial producers. The Association said that over 2000 persons will get affected due to this move. The Association demanded that the district administration and State government should take necessary steps to reduce the prices.

The horticulture department earns Rs.7 Crores through admission charges at the botanical garden every year. Films in various languages and song sequences have been shot here.
