Coimbatore : BJP National Secretary, H. Raja slammed State Law Minister, C.V.Shanmugham's recent controversial remarks on IG, Pon Manickavel, Special Officer, Idol wing.

Addressing the media here, H. Raja said "Even after recovering 140 idols, the honesty of Pon Manickavel is questioned by the State Law Minister. In this case, the people have to answer if Pon Manickavel is honest or corrupt?".

"Importantly the honesty of those who allege him has to be scrutinised. The financial well being of the politicians and police officers accusing Pon Manickavel should be accessed", he added.

Slamming the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments department (HRCED), BJP's National Secretary pointed out that " Since 2015, people of Madhampatti here have been petitioning to renovate a temple in their area. However, the HRCED have not initiated any steps towards the people's plea".

"These days, idol thefts have become very common. The negligence of HRCED, is the main reason for such thefts", H. Raja, alleged.

Speaking on the Nadarajar and Sivagami idols of Suthamalli in Ariyalur which were seized at New York, he said, "More than 10 idols of Sivan temple and 8 idols from nearby Perumal temple were burgled in 2007, after the HRCED re-opened and took photograph of the idols, nearly after 45 years. In a week after the theft took place, all the 18 idols were sent to New York. Subash Kapoor from Germany, Dheenadhayalan, Sanjeev Ashokan were arrested in connection to this case".

"Condemning the arrest of officer Gajendran, the HRCED staged protest which shows the corruptness of the department. As the accusation against Kavitha and Thirumagal for idol theft were proved, the court has taken action against them", he said

Earlier, speaking at the 30th anniversary function of the ex-servicemen and widow welfare association held in Coimbatore, H. Raja said, ‘It gives me immense pleasure to participate in the function to felicitate soldiers who guard our nation in the border and make us feel safe and secure. Even against the warning of USA we are having trade with Iran, UAE which has garnered great respect for India in global level".

"India stands as the fastest growing economy with the GDP of 7.3%", he noted.
