Even though the Gandhipuram flyover project was completed and declared open to public, the approaches to Cross Cut Road and 100 Feet Road are yet to be opened for public use. The delayed bridge works on 100 Feet Road and Chinnasamy Road has added to the traffic woes in Gandhipuram area. Road users are thus forced to take a roundabout route to reach Avinashi Road via Gandhipuram.
As Siddhapudhur Road has been closed for traffic, the motorist especially four wheelers are facing tough time.
In the same manner, road users are forced to take a circuitous route due to the ongoing implementation of the Ukkadam flyover project, which began way back in April 2018. While buses operating on this stretch could take only the one-way route, they are forced to ply in the circuitous route of Aathupalam-Fish market-Selvapuram to Ukkadam.
In the opposite direction, buses need to go up to Karumbukkadai to reach Aathupalam, thus covering an extra five kilometres.
The conversion of the Eachanari-Pollachi stretch into a four-lane system has also created similar problem of circuitous or severed connectivity for road users. The vehicles are diverted via Malumichampatti, as over bridge work are ongoing at many stretches, including Kinathukadavu.
Social activist Arul Raj, says, "It is imperative to renovate the alternative routes for easy flow of traffic. New flyovers will help ease traffic bottlenecks and snarls across the city. The narrow stretches should be broadened, when vehicles are diverted through the thoroughfares which serve as alternative routes.”
However, an official from the National Highways said, “Alternative routes have been identified and renovated before diversion, but traffic congestion could not be prevented even after such an arrangement.”
The affected road users, however, are appealing to authorities to set right the disruption, while charting alternative routes near ongoing projects for easy flow of traffic.
