Coimbatore : In what could be a moment of delight for the foresters and experts who handled the capturing and translocation of Vinayagan, a tusker from the Thadagam Valley, the elephant was seen roaming with a herd near Sand Road yesterday.

According to senior officials from the department, the elephant that was roaming in close proximity to the Sand Road area had met the herd and moved with it for a while before being separated.

Close associations with herds is a common sight for elephants in musth condition. However, taking into consideration of the stress the animal had gone through, it is really a happy sight for many as Vinayagan has associated himself with a herd.

His health condition is also fine as foresters have collected dung sampling of the animal. With green fodder and fresh water available, he is moving within five km radius from Sand Road.

Officials have decided not to monitor the animal from close proximity in order to not disturb him and informed that the GPS collar was working fine.
