Tirupur: Condemning the erection of new High Tension (HT) power lines for power distribution and transmission through cultivable lands, affected farmers have been staging a series of protests which has entered the sixth day. The farmers submitted a petition to donkeys and carried the HT line towers in a pall.

The farmers, as part of their ongoing protests have also planned to commence an indefinite fast condemning the project, from tomorrow. "The work has been going on in 16 districts in western Tamilnadu despite farmers opposing its implementation, tooth and nail," said the farmers.
The farmers led by Kongu Rajamani said that they were ready for talks with the Government, but only promises have been made by the Minister Thangamani to hike the compensation but no effort is being made to abandon the project, thus leading to failure of talks.

They also opined that agricultural prospects would get affected if the project is implemented in the 16 districts comprising of Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Namakkal, Salem, Dindigul and Dharmapuri.
