In Tirupur, over 100 farmers are taking part in the protests near Kallipalayam here.
Farmers from 16 districts have been protesting for several days against the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited move to install electric transmission towers through agricultural lands here.

Farmers said that though they requested the governments to transmit power through electric lines along Highways, they fell on deaf ears. As the fifth day, farmers protested by being half-naked and wearing thiru namam on their forehead. The farmers also had porridge using coconut shells as part of the protests.
