Shops shut in a few areas in the city in support of ongoing farmers protest

Tirupur : Shops are closed in Senjerimalai, Senjeri Pirivu, Sulthanpet in Coimbatore and Kamanayakkanpalayam in Tirupur in support of the ongoing farmers protest which has continued into the fifth day today.

Farmers of 14 districts including Tirupur, Coimbatore and Erode have been protesting the past few days against the erection of electric transmission towers in agricultural fields. 

Suresh of Yermunai Ilaignar Ani said, "This protest against the erecting of transmission towers in agricultural fields is conducted by the joint association of various farmers associations. Many political parties have extended their support to our protest. In support of our protest, shop owners in some parts of Coimbatore and Tirupur have shut down their shops today," he added.
