Tirupur : As the farmers 'waiting' protest entered the fourth day, the aggrieved farmers staged a novel protest in Tirupur by placing agricultural produce on a hearse and conduct funeral rituals.

Farmers across Tamil Nadu are part of this protest condemning against Centre's move to install electric transmission towers on their agricultural lands.

After the Centre announced a plan to build power infrastructure in 13 districts, including Erode, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tiruvannamalai, the farmers voiced against it, as it could affect their livelihood as they had to donate part of their land.

In Tirupur, over 100 farmers took part in the protest at Palipalaym village, today urging the government to revoke the plan.

Farmers from 16 districts have been protesting against the Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd's move to install electric transmission towers on agricultural lands.

The protesting farmers opined that despite requesting the government to transmit electricity through electric lines along the highways and not inside agricultural lands, the request fell on deaf ears.
