Coimbatore : A traffic police Sub-Inspector (SI) from the city has garnered the attention and appreciation of the public, as he renewed vehicle insurance for a economically backward person with his personal funds.

Saravanan, a daily wager, is residing with his wife and daughter at Serayampalayam near Avinashi Road here. When Saravanan was enroute to Ondipudur to Singanallur, he was stopped by a traffic police team headed by SI, Murugan of Singanallur Police station who were engaged in routine vehicle check.
As Saravana's vehicle insurance was not renewed, the traffic police decided to levy fine on him.
Saravanan reached out to Sub-Inspector Murugan and explained his financial situation which hindered him to renew his insurance on time.
"I and my wife Sudha hail from Cuddalore. As we married against our parent’s wish, both our families refused to accept us, hence we moved to Coimbatore. Meanwhile, a few months ago, suddenly my wife fell ill. Being a daily wager, I had to borrow money from many sources to treat my ailing wife. Presently, I am running out of money even to meet my daily family needs. Hence, renewing insurance became tedious and my last priority", lamented Saravanan.
Moved by his pathetic situation, Sub-Inspector Murugan came forward generously to renew Saravanan’s insurance by spending his own money of Rs 1,163.
Saravanan, public and other policemen present at the spot appreciated Sub-Inspector Murugan's good-hearted deed.
