Coimbatore: Even though a German team (GIZ) carried out an inspection of the city road infrastructure and terminuses to introduce a fleet of electric buses into the city’s transport system, a clear picture is yet to emerge on that front.
There is no official word yet on the proposed plan to induct electric buses into the city’s transport system. Whether the buses will be introduced as part of the Smart Cities Project or will it be done under the Urban Development scheme is yet to be spelled out by the concerned authorities. “The German team carried out an inspection of bus terminuses and bus stops during their visit to study the road infrastructure and it was expected that 20 buses will be operational in the first phase, for which work is yet to commence,” said a transport official.
