Maruthuvar Thangamani, the State Treasurer of Katchi Saarbatra Vivasayigal Sangam is heading the protest. During the protest, farmers raised slogans that the Government should give up its plan of laying the electric transmission towers through agricultural lands and instead install them through roads. They demanded that compensation be provided to farmers in whose lands electric transmission towers have already been installed.
Suresh, the State Vice-President, Ermunai Ilaignar Ani said, "The protest will continue until our demands are met. We are ready to negotiate only with the Chief Minister or Minister for Electricity." Meanwhile, hundreds of farmers participated in the waiting protest that was also held at Kallipalayam in Tirupur yesterday.
