Coimbatore : The veterinary team of the forest department have successfully darted the tranquiliser on the wild elephant Vinayakan in the foothills of the western ghats in Periyathadagam around 6.30 a.m. here.

The 30-35-year-old elephant was monitored throughly last week from Mankarai until the darting area and was darted by experts headed Dr. N.S. Manohar involving Dr. Kalaivanan and Dr. Ashokan.
The elephant has been given a mild sedation of Xylaxene and Ketamine and is being roped using field staff.
Four Kumkis have arrived at the spot and waiting for the medicine to kick in and then would try and load him in the vehicle, later to be translocated.
