Coimbatore: Ulaga Tamil Panpattu Maiyam felicitated tamil scholars for their outstanding contribution to literature. 

A release from Ulaga Tamil Panpattu Maiyam says "The 6th anniversary celebrations of 'Ulaga Tamil Panpattu Maiyam' was marked by honouring Tamil Scholars with Awards and a book release function on December 15". 

Dr. Sirpi Balasubramaniam, Trustee of Ulaga Tamil Panpattu Maiyyam commended the Chief Guest Dr. Mayilsamy Annadurai, Former Director, ISRO.

He spoke on the immense contribution of Prof. M.P. Srinivasan to Tamil vaishnavite literature which made him the choice for the ‘U.Ve. Swaminathan Tamil scholar award’. 

K. Chinnappa Bharathi was chosen for the ‘Periyaswamy Thooran Tamil Writer Award’. Prof. K. Mutthuchezhian had written on bio diversity in chaste Tamil and was chosen for the ‘Dr. Nalla G Palaniswami award for Tamil writing in other fields’. 

Dr. Mayilsamy Annadurai, chief guest highlighted the role of authors. "The society has the responsibility to recognise and felicitate such outstanding scholars. Every time an author or a writer is recognised, a new writer is born".

He recalled that Tamil literature has documented the existence of water in moon. It was indeed a proud moment, when the Chandrayan mission headed by a Tamilian proved it right. 

"As Tamilians, we should be proud of thinking, speaking and writing in Tamil", Dr.Mayilsamy said. 

Later Dr. Mayilsamy Annadurai presented the awards. The awards included a citation and a cash prize. 

A book on ‘Diabetes for the Common Man’ in Tamil, written by Dr. Krishna Swaminathan, Endocrinologist was released by Dr. Nalla G Palaniswami. The first copy was received by the popular writer Mr. Varalotti Rengasamy. 

Felicitating Dr. Krishnan Swaminathan, Mr. Varalotti Rengasamy stated that awareness among the public on diabetes is very crucial. Such books are need of the hour.

Writer S. Ramakrishnan, who has been chosen for the Sahithya Academy Award this year, felicitated the awardees. Earlier Dr. O.T. Bhuvaneshwaran Co-ordinator of the Trust, welcomed the gathering.
