Teachers torture, ends student's life

A class of 9th std student committed suicide after he was allegedly tortured by three teachers Kandhaiah, Karthick and Gunaseelan of his school at Venkitapuram.

N. Babu, a student of the Kamalakannan Corporation Higher Secondary School, Edayarpalayam had written a heart-rending letter detailing the reasons behind his suicide.

A few days ago, Babu's science teacher Kandhaiah had beaten up his friend for some reasons. After the incident Babu had asked his friend 'What is your problem?', the teacher who heard those words mistook it and inquired Babu. Babu had confessed that it was meant to his friend and not to the teacher. But Kandhaiah was skeptical in accepting Babu's confession. He brutally beat Babu in front of the students and also punished him relentlessly.

Since then the teacher had been imposing Babu with tough punishments and brutal beatings. Karthick, a teacher of standard XII and another teacher Gunaseelan also joined with Kandhaiah in the punishment spree. Even after repeated explanations and apologies by Babu, the teachers tortured him to the core.

The insults and pain suffered by Babu forced him to report the incident to the child helpline 1098. But, Babu has stated in the letter that he had reported to the helpline as well but no officers turned to help him out.

Babu's mother who was worried about her son's heartbreak escalated the issue to the school principal, who assured of stringent action but no action was actually taken. Everyday Babu had to face the tortures and humiliation by the three teachers, who locked him up at the staff room and punished him on a daily basis.

Babu was deeply wounded by the cold-blooded act by the three teachers. Today morning at 3:00 am Babu consumed poison and committed suicide. His parents rushed to Government hospital but unfortunately passed away on the way. Babu has detailed the happenings through a three-page letter. The words from his letter vouches for the pain and insults experienced by the 14-year-old innocent boy.

The pitiful incident has shook the entire City. Babu's parents have raised their concern against the school teachers alleging them for their son's death. They have strongly urged the concerned officials to investigate the issue and arrest the teachers immediately.
