Vellalore dumpyard set on fire

The sprawling Vellalore dumpyard unexpectedly caught on fire yesterday. Some miscreants had set the place on fire which is the den for all wastes of the city. The little spark in no time spread wholesomely, emanating thick smoke all over the area.

The residents reported the incident to the Fire Rescue Dept. 10 fire engines rushed to the spot and controlled the fire after a tough two-hour fight.



Even several hours post the incident, the bits of ashes and the smoke covered the adjoining areas of Konavaikampalayam and Mahalingapuram causing huge disruption to the commuters.The residents reported that the Corporation should initiate plans to shift the dumpyard away from the residential area, as it pose a serious health hazard.

City Corporation Commissioner Vijaya Karthikeyan visited the spot and inquired about the incident.
