Dr. Nandini, Chief Pediatrician emphasised on the importance of breastfeeding and it's impact on mothers and Children. She insisted that the awareness should be imparted to women on all days of the year as it plays a crucial role in infant development.

She stressed on the fact that new born babies should exclusively breast fed for the 0-6 mths and no substitutes is required during that period. The family members of the lactating women should aid them to overcome the emotional stress during lactating period instead of confusing them with myths. Working women should be given adequate maternity leave to breast feed their children. The Government has announced a six months maternity leave for women, which is very commendable, she stated.
