Corporation, CREDAI sign MoU on waste segregation

The Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Association of India (CREDAI) hosted ‘No Dumping - My Waste - My Responsibility’ here on Thursday and inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Coimbatore Corporation on segregation of waste.

Speaking at the event, Commissioner K. Vijayakarthikeyan said that it was the responsibility of every individual to segregate waste. He said that the initiative of CREDAI will bring about the much-needed change to keep the city clean. Stating that the city was ranked 18th among top clean cities in India, he said, “we should strive hard to secure the first place.”

The MoU was signed by the corporation commissioner and CREDAI president Rajesh B. Lund.

Mr. Lund later said that monthly meetings will be conducted to monitor changes happening in the society through the initiative.

Suresh Bhandari, who heads the organisation ‘No Dumping - My Waste - My Responsibility’, recalled that their team and the corporation jointly started promoting the No Dumping programme at the Coimbatore International Airport from January 2016.

In his presentation, he elaborated on the three-pronged segregation of wastes generated at home, as part of the project.

Wastes will be segregated into dry inorganic recyclable wastes, non-recyclable and organic wastes.

According to him, active participation of individuals is important to make the project successful.

A presentation on an online real estate marketplace ‘roofandfloor.com’ of The Hindu group was part of the event.

The website will provide transparent information about lands for the buyers and with more than 6,000 projects from leading builders, the website is the fastest growing marketplace today.

The website provides real estate details for nine places in the country: Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Coimbatore, Kumbakonam, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Trichy and Madurai.

C.R. Swaminathan, president of Residents’ Awareness Association of Coimbatore, and V. Mohan, vice-president, and N. Rajagopal, treasurer, of CREDAI took part in the event.
