Traffic diversion, parking arrangements

The police have made parking spaces for those visiting the botanical garden in Udhagamandalam between May 27 and May 29. Superintendent of Police Murali Rambha said that more than 900 police and home guards will be deployed for the security and traffic arrangements in and around Udhagamandalam town for the flower show. This includes 340 personnel from Erode, Tirupur, and Coimbatore.

Only one-way movement of vehicles will be allowed from Mettupalayam through Coonoor.

Vehicles coming down hill from the town to Mettupalayam will be allowed only through Kotagiri. Lorries will not be allowed from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on all the three days.

“As many as 13 parking lots that can accommodate nearly 1,000 cars including six parking lots near the Botanical Garden have been earmarked for four-wheelers. Seven others are at the town’s periphery. About 400 vans can be accommodated at MCMS, close to the garden,” Mr. Murali Rambha said. However, four-wheelers will not be allowed into the town if traffic congestion is high.

Tourist buses will be stopped at the outskirts of the city.

Arrangements have been made to park more than 1,400 buses at about five places. This includes the facility at Aavin at the entry point to the town through Coonoor that can be used by 200 buses, 400 at the Arts College, and 400 more at Shanthi Vijaya School ground.

Buses from Kerala and Karnataka coming through Gudalur will be stopped at HPF on the Golf Road.

“There is space to park 400 buses on one side of the road, and at a nearby place,” he said.

About 400 more buses can be parked at the Kandhal Ground near the boat house, he added.

The police have requested the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation to operate 75 mini buses to provide shuttle services connecting various parking lots to the botanical garden.

In case of traffic snarls, tourist can send a message to the police helpline whatsapp number ‘86080-00100.’
