Crackers burst in forest to welcome Minister Velumani

Coimbatore

The fun and joyous Kaattupongal celebrations organised by the Coimbatore District Police at Chadivayal here, saw a moment of disapproval when AIADMK cadre burst loud crackers inside Reserve Forest to welcome the Minister for Rural Development and Municipal Administration S.P. Velumani today.

The Minister was here to inaugurate the celebrations in which people from 16 tribal hamlets participated. Prizes and benefits were also given to the people.

While the overall mood of the event was happier, the incident of violating norms by bursting crackers inside Reserve Forest, and that too in an area where movement of wild animals is around the year has certainly raised many eyebrows.

However, the overwhelming mood of the event brushed aside this major violation and officials from both the Police Department and the Forest Department remained mum on the issue.

Later on the day, the Minister gave away prizes to winners of competitions like Tug of War, Volley ball and Kabadi. He also issued mobile phones and umbrellas to the heads of all the 16 hamlets that participated in the event.

Speaking at the event, he said that street light facilities are to be provided to all the 16 hamlets.  “We have also initiated the process the to provide community certificates to 313 children and pattas to 40 people,” he said.

He also appreciated the performers who danced to tribal music that was played during the event.
