Valentine’s Day peaceful in city

Valentine’s Day celebrations were largely peaceful in the city without any untoward incident on Sunday.

There were couple of demonstrations organised by a few outfits against the celebration on Saturday, calling it a practice of the western world and against our culture.

Police personnel were deployed at parks and malls. While there were not many celebrations to observe the day, the crowd was a little high at tourist spots such as VOC Park, Kovai Coutrallam, Aliyar and in near by Mettuppalayam.

Successful inter-caste married couples cut a cake and celebrated the day organised by the ‘Kalappu Thirumanam Purinthor Nala Sangam’ affiliated to Thanthai Periyar Dravida Kazhagam at Periyar Padipagam near Gandhipuram Bus Stand on Sunday.

Two inter-caste marriages were also performed on Sunday. The organisation has been organising inter-caste marriages from the year 2000.
