Male elephant found dead

The carcass of a male elephant was found today near a private tea estate in Bidirkadu forest range in Gudalur, about 80 Kms from here.

A group of Anti-Poaching Squad had gone to the area for their routine duty and found the slightly decomposed body of elephant, about 15 to 18 years of age, a forest department official said.

The viscera of the elephant has been sent to the laboratory in Chennai to ascertain the real reason for the death of pachyderm, Dr Vijayaraghavan, department veterinarian said.

The body, said to be four days old, was buried there.
