A survey by students of Nachiyar Vidhyalayam

On April 7, students of Nachiar Vidyalayam at Zamin Uthukuli in Pollachi participated in a survey conducted by the Students’ Government of the school.

According to a press release, since 2011 the school is having a system of Students’ Government where students elect their representatives. Those elected get symbols and the government also has MLAs, MPs, panchayat heads and members. It is a platform through which the students express their grievances and find solutions too. This enhances the governance skill in students.

The students’ parliament meets every week and the students in each class submit their grievances. This is discussed at the parliament and redressed. The students’ survey conducted recently was to get the feedback from students on academics, extra-curricular activities at school, infrastructure, students’ government, management and faculty. This was held in the presence of the members of parents’ teachers’ association.

“By this unique exercise we plan to highlight the aspirations of the students to the management, teachers and parents. Hence it holds immense importance for us to conduct this survey,” according to the press release from the students’ government.

The school also has a “currency” system. The school currency has the signature of the student who has scored the highest mark and a Thirukural.

Students who win competitions are given currencies and they deposit it in Nachiar Bank. Students with collect more currencies get financial support for education.
