More than 7k EVMs reach Coimbatore

Assembly election work gathered pace in Coimbatore after 7,000 odd electronic voting machines (EVM) reached the city on Wednesday.

The EVMS were brought to Coimbatore in 12 trucks from Bihar. They have been stocked at the office of joint director of health services in Race Course under heavy police protection.

Collector Archana Patnaik who inspected the EVMs said that in all, 7052 EVMs and 4000 control units have come to Coimbatore for use in ten assembly constituencies in the district. She told reporters that four engineers from Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) and 20 officials from the election department would start examining all the machines for their readiness. The audit would be completed by February 19, she said.

The election department has started works to establish polling booths in all the constituencies in the district where 28 lakh odd voters would be exercising their franchise to vote.
