Coimbatore Corporation has launched a 24-hour Fever Prevention and Control Centre to monitor fever cases across 100 wards and provide medical advice. Coimbatore: Aiming to detect fever-related illnesses at an early stage, prevent their spread and ensure timely medical intervention, the Coimbatore Corporation has launched a 24-hour Fever Prevention and Control Centre at its main office. The centre, which began functioning on August 29, will monitor fever-prevention activities across all 100 wards under the Corporation’s five zones and provide medical advice to the public through the helpline 9597004936.
The centre will assess people reporting fever based on their symptoms, body temperature, duration of illness, travel history and other relevant details. Depending on the medical assessment, patients may be advised to undergo laboratory tests for illnesses including dengue, malaria, chikungunya, leptospirosis, typhoid and influenza. Patients with severe symptoms will be referred to hospitals for further treatment.
As part of the surveillance mechanism, officials will track the number and condition of fever patients and maintain records of suspected and confirmed cases. Areas reporting a higher concentration of cases will be identified for special fever and medical camps, intensified surveillance, house-to-house fever surveys and contact monitoring.
The Corporation will simultaneously step up mosquito-control measures, particularly to prevent dengue. These include removing stagnant water, eliminating mosquito-breeding sites, larval control and fogging wherever necessary. Field workers will inspect homes and buildings and create awareness among residents, while preventive activities will also be carried out in schools, offices, residential areas, markets and other places where people gather.
