Southern Railway will operate weekly special trains between Chennai Central and Kollam via Jolarpettai, Salem, Erode, Tiruppur and Podanur from August 12 to September 3 to meet the increased travel demand during the upcoming Onam festival.
Coimbatore: In view of the Onam festival and the expected increase in passenger movement between Tamil Nadu and Kerala, Southern Railway has announced the operation of weekly special trains between Chennai Central and Kollam via Jolarpettai, Salem, Erode, Tiruppur and Podanur. According to the Salem Division of Southern Railway, Train No. 06119 Chennai Central–Kollam Weekly Special will depart from Chennai Central at 3.10 p.m. every Wednesday from August 12 to September 2 and reach Kollam at 7.20 a.m. the following day.
In the return direction, Train No. 06120 Kollam–Chennai Central Weekly Special will depart from Kollam at 10.40 a.m. every Thursday from August 13 to September 3 and reach Chennai Central at 3.30 a.m. the following day.
The special trains will operate via key stations including Arakkonam, Katpadi, Jolarpettai, Salem, Erode, Tiruppur, Podanur, Palakkad, Thrissur, Aluva, Ernakulam Town, Kottayam, Changanasseri, Tiruvalla, Chengannur, Mavelikara and Kayankulam.
For passengers travelling from Coimbatore, the Chennai Central–Kollam special will arrive at Podanur at 11.13 p.m. and depart at 11.15 p.m. In the return direction, the Kollam–Chennai Central special will arrive at Podanur at 6.20 p.m. and depart at 6.22 p.m.
The trains will comprise AC 3-Tier Economy coaches.
