More than 1,500 students of Sri Ramakrishna Engineering and Polytechnic Colleges, along with teachers, NCC and NSS volunteers and police personnel, took an anti-drug pledge in Coimbatore after Chief Minister Joseph Vijay administered the pledge through video conferencing as part of the State government’s ‘Drug-Free Tamil Nadu’ initiative.
Coimbatore: More than 1,500 students, teachers, NCC and NSS volunteers and police personnel took an anti-drug awareness pledge at Sri Ramakrishna Engineering College and Sri Ramakrishna Polytechnic College in Vattamalaipalayam near Thudiyalur in Coimbatore as part of the Tamil Nadu government’s ‘Drug-Free Tamil Nadu’ initiative.
The pledge-taking programme was organised by the Coimbatore City Police following the State government’s call for educational institutions across Tamil Nadu to conduct awareness programmes against drug abuse. The initiative formed part of a State-level mass pledge-taking programme aimed at creating greater awareness about the dangers of narcotic substances and promoting a drug-free society.
The programme was held in the presence of Coimbatore West Deputy Commissioner of Police Saravanan. Thudiyalur Police Inspector Vivekanandar welcomed the participants.
The State-level pledge-taking programme, addressed by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay through a video conference, was screened on a large LED display at the college premises. Following the broadcast, participants at the venue collectively took the anti-drug awareness pledge.
Students from Sri Ramakrishna Engineering College and Sri Ramakrishna Polytechnic College, along with NCC and NSS volunteers, teaching staff and police personnel, participated in the programme.
The event also focused on encouraging students and members of the public to remain vigilant against drug abuse and actively contribute towards creating a society free from narcotic substances.
