Rs 46 Lakh ABC Centre for Stray Dogs at Vellalur: Corporation Commissioner Inspects Construction

Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner Katta Ravi Teja IAS inspected the construction of an Animal Birth Control Centre for stray dogs at Vellalur waste dumping yard. The facility, built under the 15th Central Finance Commission grant at Rs 46 lakh, aims to control stray dog population through sterilization surgeries.


Coimbatore: Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner Katta Ravi Teja IAS conducted an inspection of the Animal Birth Control (ABC) Centre being constructed at the Vellalur waste dumping yard complex with an estimated cost of Rs 46 lakh under the 15th Central Finance Commission (CFC) grant scheme.



During today's (03.08.2026) inspection, the Commissioner visited the compost preparation centre, waste segregation facility for biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste, and the vehicle weighing platform operating within the Vellalur fertilizer yard complex under Ward No.99 of the Corporation's South Zone.

Commissioner Katta Ravi Teja personally inspected the construction work of the stray dog sterilization surgery centre and instructed officials to expedite completion of the project. This centre, being developed under the 15th Central Finance Commission grant scheme, is established with the objective of controlling the stray dog population through systematic sterilization procedures.

The inspection was attended by Assistant Executive Engineer Kanagaraj, Assistant Engineer Sandeep Kumar, and other Corporation officials. It is noteworthy that waste management and animal welfare projects are being implemented in an integrated manner at the Vellalur complex.
