Monthly maintenance work at Ukkadam substation will disrupt power supply tomorrow, August 1st, from 9 AM to 4 PM across various areas including Variety Hall Road, Town Hall, Oppanakkara Street, Selvapuram, and Kempatty Colony. Residents advised to make alternative arrangements for essential power needs during the scheduled outage.

Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) has announced a temporary power shutdown tomorrow (August 1) from 9 AM to 4 PM in several key areas of Coimbatore city due to scheduled monthly maintenance work at the Ukkadam substation. The seven-hour power outage will affect over 25 localities across the city's central business and residential zones.

The areas that will experience power disruption include Variety Hall Road (partial), Town Hall (partial), Thyagi Kumaran Market, Oppanakkara Street, Selvapuram, Kempatty Colony, Karumbukadai, Aathupalam, Ukkadam, Sungam Bypass Road, Shanmuga Nagar, Alvin Nagar, Indira Nagar, Bari Nagar, Dr. Munusamy Nagar, State Bank Road, Collectorate Office, Railway Station, Government Hospital, and Lorry Pettai.

TNEB officials stated that these monthly maintenance operations are essential to ensure the continuous functioning of the substation and to improve the quality of power supply to consumers. "We regret the inconvenience caused to the public. If the work is completed as scheduled, power supply will be restored to all affected areas by 4 PM," officials confirmed. The maintenance work includes inspection of transformers, circuit breakers, and other critical electrical equipment to prevent unexpected breakdowns and ensure uninterrupted power supply in the coming months.

Residents and commercial establishments in the affected areas have been requested to make advance arrangements for their emergency power requirements. In particular, hospitals, critical business establishments, and organizations providing essential services have been advised to arrange for alternative power backup systems. The power outage will impact thousands of households, numerous commercial establishments, and key government offices including the Collectorate and Government Hospital, making prior preparation crucial.

TNEB authorities have assured that if the maintenance work is completed ahead of schedule or gets delayed due to unforeseen circumstances, information will be promptly communicated to the public through various channels. Citizens have been advised to contact TNEB's helpline numbers for additional details regarding the power outage. The electricity board has also deployed additional technical staff to ensure the maintenance work is completed within the stipulated timeframe to minimize public inconvenience.

This scheduled maintenance is part of TNEB's regular preventive maintenance program aimed at reducing unplanned power failures and improving overall grid reliability. The board conducts such maintenance activities periodically across all substations to maintain infrastructure standards and ensure quality power supply to consumers throughout the year.
