Coimbatore Corporation Intensifies Dengue Mosquito Eradication Drive

Coimbatore Corporation has intensified dengue mosquito eradication activities across its five zones. Over 3.5 lakh unused items that could breed mosquito larvae have been disposed of from just the Central and East zones alone during intensive door-to-door cleaning drives.

Coimbatore: Coimbatore Corporation has launched an intensive dengue mosquito eradication drive across all five zones - East, North, West, South, and Central - to combat the spread of dengue fever. As part of this major public health initiative, sanitation workers conducted thorough cleaning operations on roads, vacant plots, streets, and residential areas to remove unused items that could serve as breeding grounds for mosquito larvae.

In the Central zone covering 20 wards, dengue eradication workers conducted door-to-door visits and intensive cleaning operations. Approximately 2 lakh unused items capable of breeding mosquito larvae were collected and disposed of. These included tyres, coconut shells, paint tins, thermocol, bricks, broken plastic items, drums, food parcel containers, flower pots, plastic buckets, and ceramic materials.

Similarly, aggressive mosquito eradication measures were undertaken across 20 ward areas in the East zone. A total of 1,53,452 unused items that could produce mosquito larvae were collected and removed from these areas. Combined, over 3.5 lakh items have been disposed of from just these two zones alone, demonstrating the scale of the operation.

During house visits, dengue eradication workers created awareness among residents about dengue prevention measures. Guidelines were provided to the public on the importance of keeping water-stagnant areas clean, disposing of unused items properly, and maintaining hygiene around homes.

Corporation officials stated that these mosquito eradication activities will continue across all zones and that all preventive measures are being implemented to prevent the spread of dengue disease. The public has been requested to cooperate with the Corporation's efforts and keep their homes and surroundings clean.
