Tiruppur District: Water levels rise in Amaravathi and Thirumoorthy dams

Water level at Amaravathi Dam in Tiruppur district has risen to 41.43 feet as of July 27. The dam is receiving 42 cusecs inflow while releasing 1490 cusecs. Thirumoorthy Dam stands at 35.57 feet water level.


Coimbatore: The water level at Amaravathi Dam in Tiruppur district has risen significantly due to continuous inflow from catchment areas. Water Resources Department officials reported that the water level in the dam, which has a total capacity of 90 feet, has reached 41.43 feet as of July 27.

The dam has been receiving steady inflow due to rainfall in its catchment areas. Currently, the dam is recording an inflow of 42 cubic feet per second (cusecs). Meanwhile, officials stated that 1490 cusecs of water is being released from the dam for irrigation and downstream requirements.

Similarly, Thirumoorthy Dam, located near Udumalaipettai in Tiruppur district, is also maintaining a satisfactory water level. The dam, with a total capacity of 60 feet, has recorded a water level of 35.57 feet as of July 27.

Thirumoorthy Dam is currently receiving an inflow of 14 cusecs. Water Resources Department officials announced that 21 cusecs of water is being released from the dam.

Farmers have expressed happiness over the continuous inflow at both dams. They are hopeful that adequate water will be available for irrigation purposes. With the monsoon season continuing, the water levels in both dams are expected to rise further in the coming days, providing relief to agricultural activities in the region.
