Coimbatore: Water levels in two major reservoirs of Tirupur district - Amaravathi and Thirumoorthy dams - have been steadily rising due to continuous inflow from catchment areas, Water Resources Department officials announced on Wednesday.
Amaravathi Dam, which has a total storage capacity of 90 feet, recorded a water level of 49.18 feet as of July 24. Officials stated that the dam is receiving a steady inflow of 40 cubic feet per second (cusecs) from its catchment areas. Currently, 740 cusecs of water is being released from the dam to meet irrigation and drinking water requirements downstream.
Meanwhile, Thirumoorthy Dam, located near Udumalaipettai in Tirupur district, has registered a water level of 35.56 feet. The dam, with a maximum storage capacity of 60 feet, is receiving an inflow of 160 cusecs from its catchment areas. Officials reported that 21 cusecs of water is being released from the reservoir.
Water Resources Department officials expressed optimism that water levels in both dams would continue to rise in the coming days as catchment areas continue to receive rainfall. The increasing water levels are expected to provide relief to farmers in the region and ensure adequate water supply for irrigation and drinking water needs in Tirupur and surrounding areas.
