Coimbatore: Three persons, including a 78-year-old man, were injured in three separate road accidents reported across Coimbatore city, while a 21-year-old nursing student was killed in a tragic crash on the L&T Bypass Road. Police have registered separate cases and launched investigations into all the incidents.

In the first incident, Surya (30), a resident of Appanaickenpalayam, was riding his motorcycle from Mettupalayam Road towards North Coimbatore at around 12.30 a.m. While descending the Saibaba Temple Flyover, his motorcycle allegedly rammed into the rear of a car travelling ahead. The impact threw him off the vehicle, leaving him with a severe head injury. Passers-by rescued him and shifted him to a private hospital. The Traffic Investigation Wing (West) Police have registered a case and are investigating.

In another accident, P. Ponnusamy (78) was riding his scooter on Vellakinar Road in Thudiyalur when a car, allegedly travelling at high speed from east to west, collided with his vehicle. He sustained injuries to his right arm and shoulder and was admitted to the Coimbatore Government Medical College Hospital. The Traffic Investigation Wing Police have registered a case and commenced an investigation.

In the third incident, Sandeep (22), a resident of Athuppalayam near Karumathampatti, was riding his motorcycle along the upper deck of the G.D. Naidu Flyover in Peelamedu. Near Fun Mall, an autorickshaw travelling ahead allegedly took a sudden left turn without signalling, causing Sandeep to crash into the vehicle. He was thrown onto the road and sustained a severe head injury along with abrasions on his shoulder. He was initially taken by ambulance to the Coimbatore Government Medical College Hospital and was later shifted to a private hospital for further treatment.

The Traffic Investigation Wing (East) Police have registered a case against the autorickshaw driver, Balamurugan (42), and further investigation is under way.

Two other nursing students sustained injuries after the trio were allegedly struck while attempting to cross the road by a tipper lorry that was reportedly being driven on the wrong side of the road in a negligent manner.
