Coimbatore Corporation Seals 10 Shops Over Rent Arrears, Collects Rs 24.63 Lakh

Coimbatore Corporation sealed 10 shops in commercial complexes for non-payment of rent. Out of total arrears of Rs 54.38 lakh, Rs 24.63 lakh has been collected. Action was taken across West, North, and South zones of the city.

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore Corporation administration has taken strict action against tenants who have been operating shops without paying rent for a long period. A total of 10 shops have been locked and sealed, according to corporation officials.

Despite multiple notices and personal visits by corporation officials demanding payment of long-pending rent arrears from tenants operating shops in municipal commercial complexes, the efforts yielded no results. Following this, the administration decided to take stern action against these shops.

In the West Zone, six shops were sealed - one shop on DB Road under Ward No. 71, three shops on Arokyasamy Road, one shop on TV Swamy Road, and one shop on Suppiri Street under Ward No. 73. In the North Zone, two mutton stalls in Thudiyalur under Ward No. 2 were locked.

In the South Zone, two shops in Thakkali Market under Ward No. 96 were sealed. Thus, a total of 10 corporation commercial complex shops have been locked and sealed across the three zones.

The total rent arrears for these 10 shops amounts to Rs 54,38,988. Through this action, Rs 24,63,577 has been collected so far, the corporation administration has stated. Officials said action will continue to collect the remaining arrears.

The corporation administration has warned that tenants operating shops in municipal commercial complexes must pay rent on time, failing which such strict action will be taken.
