Coimbatore Corporation Vaccinates 1,022 Street Dogs Against Rabies in Single Day

Coimbatore Corporation and animal welfare NGOs jointly conducted a mega anti-rabies vaccination drive on January 11, 2026, inoculating 1,022 street dogs across Government Hospital, Court Complex, Vadavalli and other areas. Veterinary officials and volunteers worked together in this public health initiative.

Coimbatore: A significant milestone was achieved in the street dog rabies prevention initiative in Coimbatore Corporation limits. The civic body administration, in collaboration with animal welfare non-governmental organizations, successfully vaccinated 1,022 street dogs with anti-rabies vaccination in a single day on January 11, 2026.

The special vaccination camp was conducted across multiple locations within the Corporation limits. The initiative covered Coimbatore Government Hospital, Integrated Court Complex, Vadavalli, Vellalur, Kuniyamuthur, Masakkalipalayam, G.V. Residency, Uppilipalayam, and T.N.H.B. Colony areas.

The Corporation's Veterinary Care Department and NGOs joined hands to execute this mission. Veterinary medical officers, field staff, dog-catching teams, and members of voluntary organizations worked in coordination to make this achievement possible.

This special drive was undertaken with the objective of ensuring public health safety. Anti-rabies measures continue to be implemented in conjunction with the Animal Birth Control (ABC) program.

This marks an important step in the effort to transform Coimbatore into a rabies-free city. The operation was conducted without causing any disturbance to the public or street dogs.

On behalf of the Corporation administration, the public has been requested to extend full cooperation for anti-rabies vaccination and animal welfare activities for street dogs. The Corporation and NGOs plan to continue this initiative on an ongoing basis.
