Aliyar, Parambikulam, Sholayar Dams Show Significant Water Level Increase

Water levels in Coimbatore district's major dams - Aliyar, Parambikulam, and Sholayar - have risen due to continuous southwest monsoon rainfall. As of June 26, all three dams are receiving steady inflow with significant water releases, according to Water Resources Department officials.


Coimbatore: Water levels in major dams across Coimbatore district are witnessing significant rise due to continuous southwest monsoon rainfall. As of June 26, Water Resources Department officials have released the water level details of three major dams - Aliyar, Parambikulam, and Sholayar.



The Aliyar Dam, located near Anaimalai, has a total capacity of 120 feet. Currently, the water level stands at 58.4 feet due to rainfall in the catchment areas. The dam is receiving an inflow of 150 cubic feet per second. Simultaneously, 350 cubic feet per second of water is being released from the dam.



Parambikulam Dam near Pollachi has a capacity of 72 feet. Due to the southwest monsoon, the dam's catchment areas continue to receive steady inflow. As of today, the water level has risen to 16.14 feet. The dam is receiving an inflow of 30 cubic feet per second, while 495 cubic feet per second is being released from the dam.



Sholayar Dam, situated in Valparai, has a capacity of 160 feet. The water level currently stands at 69.23 feet due to rainfall in the catchment areas. The dam is receiving an inflow of 172 cubic feet per second, while 5 cubic feet per second is being released.

Water Resources Department officials have stated that the water levels in the dams are gradually rising due to consistent southwest monsoon rainfall. This is expected to provide adequate irrigation facilities for farmers in the region.
