Coimbatore District Dams See Rising Water Levels

Water levels at Aliyar, Parambikulam, and Sholayar dams in Coimbatore district are gradually rising. Water Resources Department officials have released current water level, inflow, and outflow details as of June 24.


Coimbatore: Water Resources Department officials have reported that water levels in the major dams of Coimbatore district - Aliyar, Parambikulam, and Sholayar - are gradually rising.




The Aliyar dam near Anaimalai has a total storage capacity of 120 feet. Due to water inflow from rainfall in the dam's catchment areas, the water level stands at 60.15 feet as of June 24. The inflow to the dam is 139 cubic feet per second, while 350 cubic feet of water is being released from the dam.




The Parambikulam dam near Pollachi has a total storage capacity of 72 feet. As the southwest monsoon continues, water inflow from the catchment areas remains steady. As of June 24, the water level has risen to 16.92 feet. The inflow to the dam is 103 cubic feet per second, while 535 cubic feet of water is being discharged from the dam.




The Sholayar dam located in Valparai has a total storage capacity of 160 feet. Due to water inflow from rainfall in the dam's catchment areas, the water level stands at 66.94 feet as of June 24. The inflow to the dam is 384 cubic feet per second, while 5 cubic feet of water is being released from the dam, Water Resources Department officials stated.
