Coimbatore: A 45-year-old woman was found dead inside the Isha Yoga Centre campus near Alandurai in Coimbatore district on Sunday night, with police suspecting that she may have consumed pesticide.

The deceased was identified as Malarvizhi (45), wife of Senthurapandiyan, a native of Madathupatty, Achampatty Post in Tirunelveli district. Police said she was working as a librarian at a private medical college in Cuddalore district and had reportedly been living separately from her husband for the past three years.

According to the police, Malarvizhi had visited her native place in Tirunelveli on June 19. On June 21, she informed her parents that she intended to resign from her job and return home, after which she travelled to Coimbatore by train.

Police said she visited the Isha Yoga Centre at Alandurai on June 22. After having food, she entered the women’s restroom inside the campus. It is suspected that she consumed pesticide mixed with a Maaza drink and locked herself inside the restroom.

At around 9.30 p.m., a housekeeping staff member, while carrying out routine cleaning, noticed that the restroom had remained locked for an unusually long time. Security personnel were alerted and, on checking through the upper portion of the door, found the woman lying unconscious inside. Pesticide containers and a juice bottle were found near her, police said.

On receiving information, personnel from the Alandurai police station and the 108 ambulance service rushed to the spot. The medical team examined the woman and declared her dead.

The body has been sent to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination.

A case has been registered under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) at the Alandurai police station, and further investigation is under way.
