Coimbatore: The Special POCSO Court in Coimbatore has granted three days of police custody for Karthik and Mohanraj, arrested in connection with the alleged abduction, sexual assault, and murder of a 10-year-old girl near Sulur. The accused will remain in police custody until June 6.
The two accused were produced before the court under tight security after the investigation team sought five days of police custody to facilitate further questioning and evidence collection. Police informed the court that custodial interrogation was necessary to gather additional evidence, verify statements, and recover material objects believed to be connected to the case.
Given the sensitive nature of the matter and heightened public attention surrounding the case, Special POCSO Judge Bhagavathi Ammal conducted the proceedings in camera inside a closed courtroom. The accused were questioned separately before the court considered the custody petition.
After hearing arguments from both the prosecution and defence, the court granted police custody for three days instead of the five days sought by investigators.
