POCSO charges have been invoked in the Sulur minor girl murder case after police investigations confirmed that the child was sexually assaulted and murdered. One accused has been remanded to judicial custody, while the other is undergoing treatment for a leg injury sustained during an alleged escape attempt.
Coimbatore: The Coimbatore Police have invoked the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in the case involving the sexual assault and murder of a minor girl near Sulur, IG Ramya Bharathi said on Saturday.
Addressing the media, IG Ramya Bharathi detailed the swift police response following a complaint that the child had gone missing on the night of May 21.
A case was immediately registered at Sulur Police Station, and five special investigation teams were constituted to trace the missing child and identify the accused.

According to police statements, Karthi confessed during interrogation to sexually assaulting and murdering the child. He is currently receiving medical treatment at a government hospital under police guard. Based on the post-mortem examination reports and medical evidence, police have registered a case under relevant sections of the POCSO Act and have assured that stringent legal action will be pursued against those involved in the crime.
Police investigations further revealed that Karthi, along with another individual identified as Mohanraj, are daily wage labourers working in the locality. Preliminary investigation indicates that the child was allegedly lured away by the accused while she was playing outside her residence. The police have assured the victim's family and the public that a thorough investigation is underway to ensure all culprits face appropriate legal consequences.
