Youths Booked for Creating Ruckus on Avinashi Road; 4 Arrested

Peelamedu Police, who had registered a case against six youths after videos of them creating public nuisance on Avinashi Road went viral, have now arrested four of them.

Coimbatore: Four youths have been arrested by the police for reckless driving and engaging in acts that endangered public safety and caused panic among motorists and pedestrians on Avinashi Road.

The group, seen shouting, dancing, and performing dangerous stunts on a moving jeep, landed in legal trouble after videos of the incident went viral on social media, prompting immediate police action.

Following public outrage, T. Arulperumal, Sub-Inspector of Police attached to E2 Peelamedu Police Station, lodged a complaint and registered a case under Sections 281 (rash driving on a public way), 125 (acts endangering life or personal safety of others), and 292 (public nuisance) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The accused were identified as Chandeep, Santhose, Tejo, Tamil, Logesh, Aravindhan, and others. Police also seized the Mahindra jeep bearing registration number TN 66 AM 7999 that was used during the incident.

Of the six booked, four individuals — Logeswaran, Aravindhan, Tejo, and Chandeep — have now been arrested and remanded by the police.

According to police sources, the incident took place around 1 a.m. on May 16 on Avinashi Road. The youths allegedly stopped their vehicle on the roadside, shouted loudly, climbed onto the jeep, and danced on top of it, causing disturbance and obstructing traffic movement.

Police officials have issued a stern warning stating that strict legal action will be taken against anyone indulging in activities that disturb public peace, create nuisance, or pose danger to road users. Further investigation is underway, and the seized vehicle remains in police custody.
