Stalin Praises Loyal Allies in Emotional Message, Wishes New Government Success

DMK president M. K. Stalin thanked alliance leaders who stood firmly with the party during the post-election political uncertainty and extended his best wishes to the incoming government, while urging it to continue the welfare and development schemes introduced during the DMK regime.

Chennai:

In an emotional message addressed to party cadres and the people of Tamil NaduDMK president M. K. Stalin said the party would not create hurdles to the formation of a new government despite falling short of the majority mark. He also urged the incoming government to continue the welfare schemes and development initiatives implemented during the DMK’s tenure.

In his statement, Stalin said:

“My beloved party cadres of our leader Kalaignar who lives within my soul, and my dear Tamil people who are equal to my life, my heartfelt greetings to all of you.

You have been witnessing the developments taking place after the election results were announced. The Assembly election results were such that no single party secured a clear majority to form the government. Although the Secular Progressive Alliance led by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) did not obtain the required majority to form the government, we have received a significant share of votes.

In my earlier interaction with the media, I had already stated that we would not stand in the way of a new government being formed and that the DMK would function as a constructive opposition party.

Subsequently, at the meeting of elected MLAs held under my leadership, the responsibility of taking a decision was entrusted to me. During that meeting, I informed them that I would discuss with the party’s headquarters administrators and take a decision keeping the welfare of the party in mind.

In a situation where no party had secured a majority to form the government, many alternative suggestions were put forward. As far as I am concerned, whatever decision our allied parties take, my view has always been that we should respect their decisions, work together in coordination, ensure a stable government is formed, and avoid paving the way for another election.

I welcome the announcement made by our alliance partners that, ‘In order to avoid the present political crisis, even if we extend support to Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) to form the government, we will continue to remain ideologically within the Secular Progressive Alliance led by the DMK.’

The Congress MLAs who contested and won as part of our alliance did not come to Anna Arivalayam to express their gratitude. Within a single day, the Congress party severed ties with the DMK and moved away. At the same time, Communist leaders Comrade Shanmugam, Comrade Veerapandian, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi leader Thol. Thirumavalavan and others expressed their sense of camaraderie by declaring that they would continue to join hands with the DMK in fighting for the rights of Tamil Nadu and the welfare of the people. This reflects the trust they place in the ideologically strong DMK.

At this important and testing moment, I express my heartfelt gratitude to the leaders of allied movements who stood firmly with us — Professor Kader Mohideen, Vaiko, Premalatha Vijayakanth, Professor Jawahirullah, Easwaran, Tamimun Ansari and all others. No amount of appreciation or gratitude would be enough for their steadfast support.

Over the past five years, we have developed Tamil Nadu across all sectors and strengthened the state. Through numerous welfare schemes, we ensured benefits reached every individual.

It is my personal wish that the visionary and well-planned schemes introduced by our government should be continued by the new government that is to be formed.
