Coimbatore District Records 181.70mm Rainfall: Disaster Management Department Report

Coimbatore district recorded 181.70mm of rainfall yesterday across various taluks. The Disaster Management Department released area-wise rainfall data, with Mettupalayam receiving the highest at 69mm. The district average stood at 7.90mm, bringing relief from the scorching heat.


Coimbatore: The Disaster Management Department has released detailed rainfall data for Coimbatore district, revealing that various parts of the region received significant precipitation yesterday, bringing much-needed respite from the intense summer heat.

According to the official report, Coimbatore district recorded a total of 181.70 millimeters of rainfall across different taluks and surrounding areas, with the district average standing at 7.90 millimeters.


The rainfall distribution varied significantly across the district. Mettupalayam and its surrounding areas received the highest rainfall at 69 millimeters, followed by Tondamuthur taluk with 33 millimeters. Siruvani foothills recorded 24 millimeters, while the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University surroundings received 15.20 millimeters of rain.


Periyanaickenpalayam and its vicinity registered 11.60 millimeters, and Pillur dam area recorded 10 millimeters. Coimbatore Airport surroundings received 5.10 millimeters, while Pollachi taluk areas measured 3 millimeters. Anaimalai surroundings also recorded 3 millimeters, matching the rainfall in Valparai Parambikulam Aliyar Irrigation Project areas.


Other areas including Madukkarai taluk recorded 1.00 millimeter, Aliyar surroundings received 1.20 millimeters, Valparai taluk measured 2 millimeters, and Bothanur railway station surroundings registered 0.60 millimeters.


Over the past week, the district has been experiencing intermittent rainfall despite scorching summer conditions. Two days ago, while the Meteorological Department had predicted heavy rainfall for Coimbatore district, the city areas remained dry. However, localities such as Periyanaickenpalayam, Thudiyalur, and surrounding regions experienced intense downpours.


Last night, light to moderate rainfall was reported across various parts of the district, providing significant relief to residents who had been enduring severe heat conditions. The Disaster Management Department continues to monitor the rainfall patterns across the district and releases regular updates to keep citizens informed about weather conditions in their respective areas.
