Tamil Nadu Food Safety Department Intensifies Surveillance on Ice Cream Adulteration Ahead of Summer Season

Tamil Nadu Food Safety Department orders strict monitoring of ice cream and cold beverage manufacturers and sellers to prevent adulteration and ensure safety standards as summer demand rises. Officials directed to inspect equipment, raw materials, expiry dates, and licenses with strict action against violators.

Coimbatore: With the onset of summer season witnessing increased demand for ice creams and cold beverages, the Tamil Nadu Food Safety Department has ordered intensified surveillance and strict inspections on ice cream and cold beverage manufacturers and sellers to prevent adulteration and ensure safety standards.

According to a circular issued by the department, officials have been instructed to properly monitor equipment used in ice cream production, raw materials, manufacturing and expiry dates, food safety licenses, and all related aspects.

As summer has begun and sales of ice creams and cold beverages are increasing, various complaints have emerged about substandard and adulterated products being sold in the market. Following this, officials have stated that continuous inspections will be conducted at production facilities and sales centers across the state.

Strict legal action will be taken against establishments violating regulations, and officials have been specifically ordered to intensively monitor whether substandard raw materials, unauthorized artificial colors and flavoring agents, contaminated water, and dangerous adulterants are being used.

Production facilities using contaminated water or banned substances have been warned that immediate legal action will be taken against them. Additionally, instructions have been issued to ensure that hygiene and safety regulations are being properly followed at manufacturing facilities.

If the public suspects adulteration, quality issues, or safety concerns in ice creams or cold beverages, they can file complaints with district food safety officials. The district control room helpline number 1070 has been announced for this purpose.

Furthermore, the Food Safety Department has advised the public to verify the quality, manufacturing date, expiry date, and FSSAI license number when purchasing ice creams and cold beverages, and to avoid buying substandard or non-branded products just because they are available at very low prices.
