Special Train Service Launched Between Bengaluru and Thiruvananthapuram via Podanur Route

Salem Railway Division announces special weekly train services between Bengaluru and Thiruvananthapuram via Podanur route starting April 1, 2025. The trains will operate on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays until May 31, connecting major stations across Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala.


Coimbatore: The Salem Railway Division has announced the operation of special train services connecting Bengaluru in Karnataka and Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala via the Podanur route, providing enhanced connectivity for passengers traveling between the two southern states.

According to a press release issued by the Salem Railway Division on April 1, the special train services will commence from April 1, 2025, and continue until late May, operating on specific days of the week to cater to passenger demand during the summer travel season.

The first service, Train No. 06547 (Bengaluru-Thiruvananthapuram Weekly Special), will depart from Bengaluru every Wednesday at 7:25 PM starting April 1 and arrive in Thiruvananthapuram the next day at 1:15 PM. This service will continue until May 27, 2025. In the return direction, Train No. 06548 (Thiruvananthapuram-Bengaluru Weekly Special) will depart from Thiruvananthapuram every Thursday at 3:15 PM beginning April 2 and reach Bengaluru the following morning at 8:30 AM. This return service will operate until May 28, 2025.

Additionally, a second weekly service has been introduced on Fridays and Sundays. Train No. 06555 (Bengaluru-Thiruvananthapuram Weekly Special) will depart from Bengaluru every Friday at 10:00 PM starting April 3 and arrive in Thiruvananthapuram the next day at 2:00 PM, continuing until May 29, 2025. The return journey, Train No. 06556 (Thiruvananthapuram-Bengaluru Weekly Special), will depart from Thiruvananthapuram every Sunday at 2:15 PM beginning April 5 and reach Bengaluru the following morning at 8:15 AM, operating until May 31, 2025.

The trains will halt at several important stations along the route, ensuring convenient access for passengers from multiple locations. The major halting stations include Varkala, Kollam, Kayamkulam, Mavelikara, Chengannur, Tiruvalla, Changanassery, Kottayam, Ernakulam Town, Aluva, Thrissur, Palakkad, Podanur, Tiruppur, Erode, Salem, Bangarapet, and Krishnarajapuram.

This special train service is expected to significantly ease travel congestion during the summer season and provide convenient options for passengers traveling between Karnataka and Kerala, particularly benefiting those visiting family, conducting business, or traveling for tourism purposes. The inclusion of Podanur as a key station on the route also enhances connectivity for passengers from the Coimbatore region.

Passengers are advised to book their tickets in advance through the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) website, mobile application, or at railway reservation counters to ensure confirmed berths during this busy travel period.
