DMK Manifesto Ignores Electricity Demands: Recycling Textile Association Disappointed

The Recycling Textile Industries Association expressed disappointment as the DMK election manifesto failed to address crucial electricity-related demands including tariff reduction and fixed charge cuts. Association President Jeyapal stated that despite eight-phase agitations, their concerns remain unaddressed in the manifesto.

Coimbatore: The Recycling Textile Industries Association has expressed deep disappointment over the absence of electricity sector-related demands in the DMK's election manifesto, stating that the omission has frustrated industrial stakeholders across the region.

Speaking about this development, Jeyapal, President of the Recycling Textile Industries Association, said, "We conducted eight phases of coordinated protests across Tamil Nadu, uniting various industrial associations to draw the state government's attention to critical demands including reduction in fixed charges, abolishing the practice of annual electricity tariff hikes, and rolling back the recently increased power rates."

"Despite our sustained efforts, no action has been taken on our demands. When the Assembly elections were announced, we waited eagerly hoping that the DMK election manifesto would include announcements addressing our concerns. However, the complete absence of any such commitments in the manifesto has caused immense disappointment," Jeyapal noted.

In the domestic market, Tamil Nadu's industrialists face competition from ten states including Gujarat. Compared to these competitor states, electricity tariffs are significantly higher only in Tamil Nadu. Consequently, the competitiveness of Tamil Nadu's industrial sector in the domestic market has been severely affected.

"The continuously escalating electricity tariffs are causing major setbacks to Tamil Nadu's industrial growth. Understanding this reality, the incoming government must take immediate action on electricity sector-related demands – this is the earnest expectation of the industrial community," Jeyapal emphasized.

Industrial stakeholders have been making continuous efforts to draw the government's attention to the electricity tariff issue. The expectation from various industrial associations is that whichever government comes to power in the upcoming elections must fulfill these long-pending demands to revive the state's industrial competitiveness.
