Plastic Bottles Float in Floodwaters as Heavy Rain Lashes Tirupur

Tirupur faced severe flooding due to heavy rainfall, with rainwater entering homes in low-lying areas. A viral video shows plastic bottles floating in flood-like conditions on the streets.

Tirupur: A video showing tons of plastic bottles floating in floodwaters on the streets of Tirupur has gone viral on social media, highlighting the severity of the recent heavy rainfall and its impact on the city.

Tirupur experienced intense rainfall for about three hours, causing flooding in low-lying areas of the city. The combination of rainwater and sewage overflow resulted in significant challenges for residents. Areas such as Pallavanchepalayam, Muthaiyan Nagar, Pichampalayam, Angeripalayam, and Gandhi Nagar were among the worst affected, with rainwater entering more than a hundred homes. Residents were forced to take matters into their own hands, working to remove water from their houses.

The situation was particularly dire in the Fire Service Colony near Gandhi Nagar. Water from the sewage canal mixed with rainwater, creating river-like conditions on the streets.

The floodwaters carried a substantial amount of garbage, including tons of plastic bottles, shocking onlookers. Local residents stood outside their homes, using sticks to prevent the garbage from entering their properties while trying to protect themselves from the floodwaters.

The viral video, captured by a local resident, shows the alarming sight of plastic bottles and debris floating en masse in the flood-like conditions on the streets. The footage has sparked discussions about urban flooding, waste management, and the environmental impact of plastic pollution in the city.

The incident has raised concerns about the city's drainage system, waste disposal practices, and preparedness for heavy rainfall. As the video continues to circulate on social media platforms, it serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by urban areas during extreme weather events and the urgent need for improved infrastructure and waste management solutions.
