Heavy Rainfall in Nilgiris: Kil Kotagiri Records Highest at 38mm

The Nilgiris district experienced significant rainfall on October 15, 2024, with Kil Kotagiri recording the highest at 38mm. Various areas across the district received moderate to heavy showers.


Coimbatore: The Nilgiris district witnessed substantial rainfall on October 15, 2024, with several areas recording moderate to heavy showers. The rainfall data, collected up to 8:30 am, revealed varying intensities across different parts of the district.

Kil Kotagiri emerged as the area with the highest rainfall, recording an impressive 38mm. This was followed by Kundah, which received 27mm of rain. Other areas that experienced significant rainfall include Glenmorgan and Kinnakorai, both recording 19mm each.

Several other locations in the district also received considerable amounts of rainfall. Udhagamandalam (Ooty) recorded 18.4mm, while Kodanad and Masinagudi both received 18mm. Pandalur and Chamraj estate recorded 15mm and 16mm respectively.

Some areas experienced moderate rainfall, including Geddai (13mm), Upper Bhavani (13mm), Billimalai (13mm), Coonoor (12mm), Kotagiri (12mm), and Kallatty (12.3mm). Avalanchi, Emerald, and Ketti all recorded 11mm of rainfall each.

Lower rainfall amounts were observed in areas such as Cherumulli (10mm), Adar estate in Coonoor (10mm), Burliar (9mm), and Barwood (8mm). Naduvattam and Devala received the least amount of rain in the district, both recording 6mm.

Interestingly, a few areas in the Nilgiris did not receive any rainfall during this period. These include Padanthorai, O Valley, and Aderly estate.

This widespread rainfall is expected to benefit the region's agriculture and water resources, while also bringing relief from the heat. However, residents and tourists are advised to take necessary precautions and stay updated on weather forecasts, especially in areas that have received heavy rainfall.
