Coimbatore: In a tragic incident near Pollachi, two female wild elephants were found dead due to electrocution in a private agricultural land near Paruthiyur. The Forest Department has launched an investigation into the matter.

Field staff from the Anamalai Tiger Reserve's Pollachi Forest Range were conducting their daily patrol in the Kottur division, Paruthiyur Umandi Hill area. During their rounds, they discovered the carcasses of two female wild elephants approximately 1 kilometer away from the protected forest area, in a hilly region of privately owned agricultural land.

The elephants were found to have died after coming into contact with electric wires while crossing from a higher elevation to a lower ground area. Upon discovery, the Range Forest Officer was immediately informed of the situation.
