Tirupur: On the auspicious occasion of Vijayadasami, hundreds of children in Tirupur took their first steps into the world of education through the traditional Vidyarambham ceremony. The event, marking the 13th year of this ritual, took place at the Sri Ayyappan Temple on College Road, Tirupur.
The Navaratri festival at the temple began on October 3rd, culminating in the Vijayadasami celebration on the 10th day. As part of the Vidyarambham ceremony, children were introduced to the world of learning through symbolic rituals. A golden spear was used to write "Om" on the tongues of the children, and they were guided to write "A" and "Aa" in raw rice.
More than 1000 parents attended the event with their children, participating in this age-old tradition of initiating young minds into education. The ceremony is based on the belief that any endeavor started on Vijayadasami, following the worship of the three main goddesses during Navaratri, will lead to great success.
Vijayadasami is considered an auspicious day to begin education, arts, or any new venture, with the conviction that it will end in triumph. During the Vidyarambham ceremony, children sit on the lap of their father, grandfather, or maternal uncle. Rice is spread on a plate, and the child's index finger is guided to write "A" in the rice. This symbolic act represents the beginning of the child's educational journey.
