MLA Vanathi Srinivasan Expresses Condolences for 5 Deaths at Indian Air Show, Criticizes Government Response

Coimbatore South MLA Vanathi Srinivasan mourns the loss of 5 lives due to crowd mismanagement at the Indian Air Show in Chennai. She criticizes the state government's lack of preparedness for the event.

Coimbatore: Coimbatore South MLA Vanathi Srinivasan expressed her deep sorrow over the tragic incident at the Indian Air Show held at Marina Beach in Chennai, where five people lost their lives due to overcrowding and lack of basic facilities. In a Facebook post on October 7, she conveyed her condolences to the bereaved families.

The MLA raised several critical questions regarding the event's management and the government's preparedness. She pointed out that despite the event coordinator, Deputy Commander Prem Kumar, anticipating a crowd of about 15 lakh people, adequate basic facilities were not arranged for the public.

Vanathi Srinivasan questioned the Tamil Nadu government's failure to provide necessary amenities such as drinking water facilities, sufficient ambulances, first aid services, and traffic control measures. She emphasized that it was the state government's duty to take precautionary measures for such large gatherings.

The MLA also criticized Kanimozhi Karunanidhi for blaming the public instead of questioning Chief Minister M.K. Stalin's administration for failing to ensure proper safety measures for the spectators.

Addressing the government's claim that five people died due to heat, Vanathi Srinivasan highlighted the contrast between the public's lack of facilities and the Chief Minister enjoying the show with his family in an air-conditioned enclosure. She questioned if this disparity aligned with the party's concept of social justice.

Through her post, Vanathi Srinivasan sought accountability from the state government for what she termed as an administrative failure that led to multiple casualties at an event where the crowd size was anticipated well in advance.
